Interview: Survey Monkey-Taking a Poll for your invention- Phil Garland, VP and Brett Chudoba on Got Invention Radio

SurveyMonkey is the world’s largest survey company with technology that powers over 1 million survey responses every day. The company has built tools based on over 10 years of experience in survey methodology and web development. SurveyMonkey was founded in 1999 with a focus on helping people make better decisions. The company has over 100 employees throughout the United States and Portugal, with headquarters in Palo Alto, CA.

Phil Garland
Vice President, Methodology
Philip joined SurveyMonkey in October 2009. Dr. Garland is responsible for ensuring that the company’s products produce optimal data quality. He also spearheads new survey tools that help researchers do more of their work in one place – SurveyMonkey. Previously, Garland was Director of Global Knowledge/Chief Methodologist at SurveySampling International. Garland has published several papers in academic journals and two book chapters in the areas of public opinion, Internet marketing, media coverage of political affairs, and intergroup relations. Garland holds a Ph.D. in Communication and an MA in Political Science from Stanford University, as well as an MA in Communication and a BA in Political Science/Communication from the University of Washington.

Brent Chudoba Vice President, Business Strategy
Brent joined SurveyMonkey in April 2009. Prior to SurveyMonkey, he was an Associate with Spectrum Equity Investors, a private equity firm. While at Spectrum, Brent was responsible for sourcing and executing Internet and online media transactions and was a member of the deal team that completed the SurveyMonkey acquisition in April 2009. Prior to Spectrum, Brent was an Investment Banking Analyst with Piper Jaffray’s technology group, focused on mergers and acquisitions and debt and equity financings. Before that, Brent was a Research Analyst at Andor Capital, a long/short, technology focused hedge fund. Brent earned a BA in Political Science from Columbia University.
